Today's Random Card 12 December 2011

Haha, it's "Random" this time, cause I have no idea where to categorise this card under. I mean, it's not exactly an entirely fail card, and yet, it's not exactly good either. So yeah.
Anyway, the card's Swordsman of the Twin Shine, Marhaus.

Swordsman of the Twin Shine, Marhaus
Normal Unit
Grade 3/Twin Drive!!
Power: 10 000
Critical: 1
United Sanctuary - Royal Paladin
Race: Human
Effect:
自(Auto) {V/R}: When this Unit attacks a Vanguard, and you have a <Royal Paladin> Vanguard, this Unit's Power is +2000 for that battle.

Ok, this card's actually quite good, and it has no cost, sounds nice, heh? Marron will help bring out a free 20k attack (only when attacking the Vanguard though sigh) and 3 Snogals is 8k Booster each, 4 of them make 9k. There's also 9k Boosters namely Toypugal and Borugal, and others whose Power can go off the charts (Young Pegasus Knight, Soul Guiding Elf or Knight Squire Alen) and that Starlight Unicorn which can be, in a way, a 1-turn 8k Booster. So it can be quite painful for the opponent.

However, think about it. Rear-guards are often used to attack the opponent's Rear-guards, unless your opponent is about to lose. Earlier in the game, getting rid of the opponent's Rear-guards is quite a necessity, which makes this card not really useful at that point. Unless you just want to attack the Vanguard all the way...

Ok, I think that above paragraph was crap. I usually think very weirdly, so yeah.

But anyway, what I think would serve as a better argument would be:

1. This card has quite a nice effect, but there are better Units with similar effects. For example, Swordsman of the Explosive Flames Palomides. That Unit adds 3000 Power when you have 2 or more Grade 3s on the field (including itself) and you can use it to attack Rear-guards and still have to 3000 Power ahaha. And being 13k you can go attack those 8k Units like S Special Intercepts. 13k also makes it easier to set up 20k or 21k attacks.
Another card not as good as Palomides, but I feel is better than Marhaus anyway, is Conviction Knight Bors. Just Counter Blast 1 to add 3000 Power for that battle is a cost that's easy to pay. And good for attacking Rear-guards too ahaha.

2. This card makes it quite hard to set up 20k attacks. Or rather, Palomides and Bors can do so more easily hehe. And 21k set ups would just be even harder.

3. Being a PR in Aichi's Starter Set, it's hard to get and quite expensive anyway. Palomides is still more expensive, but it's only by a few dollars more expensive, and definitely much more worth it.

Still, considering that it's costless to add the 2000 Power for Marhaus, it still has its uses. Palomides has no cost too, but it's harder to fulfill the condition. However, it's still Palomides > Marhaus.

As for Bors vs Marhaus, I guess they're both about as ok? In my opinion it'll be Marhaus > Bors though, since Marhaus has no cost to activate its effect, and 20k and 21k set ups can still be made quite easily with Royal Paladins. With Margal and all, it's not really a problem.
